APTLD is an organisation for ccTLD (country-code Top Level Domain) registries in Asia Pacific region. This forum was orginally establised in 1998 with the aim of promoting skills developmet and information exchange related to Intenret domand names amongst members, provding a forum to dicuss policy matters afecting Internet domain name related entities and acting as an interface with Internet coordination bodies and other bodies involved in the Intenret domain name operation. Since joining APTLD in 2001, this was the first time Viet Nam ever had the oppoturity to host such international events (APTLD and APRICOT 2017).
APTLD 71 was preceded by a two- day training session on DNS security delivered by the .LK Domains Registry team and LK Techcert, and an ICANN expert. In 2017, APTLD recorded a record-breaking tunrout with 103 registrations for the Meeting, who represented 26 APTLD Members, 3 ccTLD egistries as observers (LANIC (Laos) and .AZ (Azerbaijan), and the.ME registry (Montenegro), 4 global registrars, and several organizations, including ISOC, RIPE NCC, APRALO, APNIC, PTI/ICANN. As well, the Meeting traditionally featured APTLD Fellows – this time, those were Messrs. Berry Amol (.PG), Ahmed Saif (.IQ), and Nicolau Santos Selestino (.TL).
On behalf of MIC and VNNIC, Mr. Tran Minh Tan – Director General of VNNIC delivered the welcom and opening speech in the meeting. Mr. Tan said various strategies and policies in Viet Nam have been established to enhance the growth of IT and Internet based on the sufficient and transparent regulations which are in accordance with international customs. Particularly, regarding the .VN ccTLD which is considered as the national resources under the Vietnam’s law and regulations, Viet Nam‘s government all wants to bring about the safety and lawful rights of registrants, while still preserving the Vietnamese tradition and helping the domestic enterprises to expand the brand awareness not only within the border but also to the global Internet. In Viet Nam, legal framework system for ccTLD .VN is fullfill and compatible with international practice including registration rule first come first serve, dispute resolution, and so on.
The meeting involved 13 sessions and panel discusssion, at which they delivered over 50 presentations on a broad aray of matters varying from policy to technical and security which are arranged to be suitable for all of member’s policy and economy. At the closure of the Meeting, Members discussed and approved the APTLD Policy Development Process and Capacity-Building Framework, and a draft APTLD Statement on Release of Country and Territory Names by 11 Brand Registries, subject to a subsequent review and approval by the whole APTLD community.
At the AGM on 3 March 2017, Members approved the ascending Board, the budget for FY2017, and made a number of other important decisions in the administrative and financial areas.
